Yesterday morning, I looked out the kitchen window to find the birdbath covered with a delicate coating of ice. Seems it’s finally time to clean it out and bring it indoors for the winter.

This saffron crocus is a welcome bit of color as the rest of the blooms and foliage are fading. I just need a few more of these beauties to bloom before I can make some saffronated rice.
I started some Nasturtiums from seed this year, to pick up on the color of the dwarf Japanese maple in the Early Spring border (which isn’t particularly colorful in the summer).
This is the only bloom so far, but I do like the pop of color it adds. Hopefully the chipmunks don’t eat it right away.

I moved and divided these peonies a few years back, and I remember worrying that I’d broken them into too small of sections.
Seems I had nothing to worry about — they’re thriving in their new home, and the ones that are in full sun are full of blooms every June.
