I’m filing this under Bloom Day, even though I didn’t actually get out on the 15th to photograph the blooms in my garden. These photos were taken on the Friday before Memorial Day, when I had a day off to do some weeding.
I can always tell if spring is earlier or later than usual by when the tree peony blooms. A later spring means she’s in bloom for Memorial Day.
First iris of the season! I’m seriously contemplating becoming a collector of irises.
A late-May view of my front “cottage” garden after a triage-style weeding pass. The ailing dogwood is in bloom, along with the alliums. The peonies are in bud.
A rarity: I found a long-lost tag from a planting that’s still alive and thriving! This geranium predates us moving into this house some five years ago.
Alliums in bloom with peonies in bud in the front garden.
White and purple alliums in bloom in the Early Spring Border.
Look closely and you’ll see a fuzzy bumble enjoying the lamium.
Lunaria, aka Honesty plant. My neighbor says they’re weeds… but if I like the way they look, and they don’t go crazy, I prefer to call them volunteers.
Another of the first irises of the season.
The Aromas strawberries are in bloom! This year, I think I’ll use them exclusively for jamming. Also, these things spread like mad crazy.
New birdbath and new Adirondack chairs outside the sunroom. The alliums are kind of in the way — I want to move them to a more appropriate site come Fall.
I’m incredibly late on planting out my veggie garden, so I’m hoping to carve out some time to take care of that in the next week or two. Between the spring rains and my personal lack of motivation, things haven’t gotten done as early as I would have liked. It’s OK, though. No worries. Gardening is about enjoying the outdoors, not stressing about it. 🙂
