Walked over three miles already this morning between appointments. It’s a beautiful day for it, too.

Trying to get away from Twitter, so I’m subscribing to my few favorite folks in NewsBlur and trying a new method of posting quick updates to my blog.
First Grade!
[Taken August 20, 2018 at 6:53AM]
He was the first to arrive at Extended Time before school this morning, and complained to me this evening that all he could do was play dollhouse with the few girls who showed up until they opened the gym. I’m planning to let him bring a toy and a book tomorrow, just for before school.
Apart from that, and us not knowing he’d need an afternoon snack from home, the first day of First Grade sounds like it was a good one.
Post-Staycation Kickboxing

I slept funny last night, so the weird stiffness in my right shoulder blade and neck area limited the range of motion in my right hook. I also took (or invented) the low-impact option for moves like jumping jacks, and I skipped the abs session at the end of class.
Apart from that, though, class was awesome. Got sweaty, stayed in the groove, and the instructor stuck with drills and combinations we’d done before (which helps with the groove thing).
I also made a funny to some early-middle-aged runners in the locker room after class. They were comparing notes about how their bodies had changed after pregnancy: ribs and hips spreading, etc. I piped up on my way into the shower, “That’s the great thing about me being fat before I got pregnant: it didn’t wreck my body, because I’d already wrecked it myself!” I cracked them all up BAD
Self-deprecation is just one of my many talents.
Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day: August 2018
The near-drought here in NW Ohio (Zone 6) has been partially relieved over the past few days, but my benign neglect and lack of watering is showing for some plants. Luckily, I try to keep my gardens stocked with hardy survivors and nothing especially needy, so I think all the established plantings (and even some new additions) will weather the dry spell just fine.
