New Glasses

New Glasses

[Taken 3 November 2014]

Seems I go four to six years between new prescriptions. This time, I was getting headaches (and was getting tired of my poorly-fitted glasses sliding down my face), so I decided to get a new prescription to rule out eyestrain as a cause of my headaches. Wasn’t the glasses — like four years ago, my prescription barely changed — although the headaches could still be caused by either my neck injury or my orthodontics.

The interior of my new glasses are a turquoise color that really brightens my blue-hazel eyes. I also like the different shape; it opens my eyes and suits my facial structure better than the rectangular frames.

I think so, anyway. So far, I really like them.

Operation Braceface, Day 708

As the assistant told the orthodontist today, we’re at 24 months. (Technically, it’s 23½, but who’s counting?) On my way out, I asked the assistant if she thinks the initial estimate of 2½ years of treatment still seems like it will hold true, and she said yes. She said the doctor is pleased with my progress, and she doesn’t see any reason why we wouldn’t be finished with treatment by then.

I’m having a hard time translating the remaining major adjustments (midline and molars) into only — how many? — four more adjustments? …Well, now that I’ve counted out how many adjustments I’d have in six months, I guess that’s feasible.

I Don’t Believe in Jinxes

…But if I did, I’d say I totally jinxed myself at this week’s Weight Watchers At Work meeting.

The director of the fitness center at my work knows about my back condition, and asked me if it’s been getting better lately, since I’ve lost 20 pounds this year. I answered yes, that I haven’t had any major issues in probably six months.

Cue the major issues.

Yesterday, I sat in a doctor’s office for two hours with my son on my lap, while he underwent a food challenge for his allergies. He passed the challenge, but my back didn’t. I didn’t realize what had happened until I went to yoga today, and the activity actually made it feel worse instead of better.

So, here I lay on the couch, with an ice pack under my lumbar region and my bloodstream full of ibuprofen. If I don’t feel better by tomorrow morning, I’ll see if my chiropractor can get me in over my lunch break.

I’ve been spoiled by my lack of pain lately; I thought it was gone for good. I thought maybe getting into a healthy weight range and strengthening my core would solve the problem.

Not entirely.
