June 2016 Weigh-In
I’ve done the whole “Why Did I Eat That” analysis before. Seems that maybe I need to do it again, and offer myself some better options for the next time I find myself wanting to stuff my face when I’m not truly hungry (or feed my face the absolute wrong foods).
Situation: At work, either late morning or mid afternoon. Sluggish, but not necessarily hungry. Tempted to hit the vending machine for a Diet Dew and something from the bottom row — Pop Tarts, cookies, honey bun, etc.
When I find myself sitting at my desk and contemplating a sugary snack, I have a couple of lines of defense.
Number One: I actually wrote myself a reminder on a sticky note, telling myself how crappy I felt after eating the carrot cake from the restaurant downstairs. Not that it’s not delicious, but the icing is more sugar than cream cheese, and I feel positively nasty after I eat a piece.
Number Two: I look at my weight graphs in Google Sheets. I’ve been aggregating monthly and weekly weights from my daily weigh-ins at the bathroom scale, and when I feel like it doesn’t really matter if I go get a Pop-Tart or some Hostess cupcakes from the bottom row, I take a look at the slow downward trend I’ve got going on. Then I let myself be reminded by that blip in May (and June) that, yes, the little things DO matter.
Raspberries!

Shortly after we moved in, our neighbor gave us permission to pick raspberries from his raspberry bush that borders our fence. I assume permission given three or four years ago extends to today…?
We picked nearly a pint this morning, at Connor’s suggestion/insistence.
Overlook at the Wright Brothers Memorial
My 80-year-old camera would choose this particular frame to slip and overlap the next frame, so that the resulting photo isn’t the standard square format — and didn’t get automatically scanned and uploaded by The Darkroom. Glad I still have my trusty Epson Perfection V700 Photo flatbed scanner on hand.
Not the best camera for portraits — and I didn’t exactly get the color adjustments quite right in post-processing — but, like I’ve said before, I appreciate a slightly quirky camera. Plus, I got enough snaps with my iPhone to make up for one wonky film portrait.
Shindig Success!

Note to self: Even if only one friend were to show up, it would still be a party worth throwing.
The annual shindig happened over a month ago, but I wanted to be sure to make mention of it here in the blog, since I have a tendency to forget how much fun it is every year. I always stress over it, and worry over whether it’s worth the extra-thorough house-cleaning and the food prep for days and the last-minute RSVPs. The answer is yes. It’s worth it.
